Application Process for Transfer Students
At Paul Smith’s College, we will help you finish the degree you have started. When you transfer here, you will find a strong support system to guide you toward your bachelor’s degree.
To be considered for transfer admission, please submit the following:
- Complete the Paul Smith’s admission application
- Submit official transcripts from ALL colleges/universities you have previously attended, regardless of the amount of credits attempted or earned
- If you have completed less than two full-time semesters at another college/university, official high school transcripts or GED scores are required
- Letters of recommendation and a personal statement are strongly encourage for all applications, but not required

Once we receive all necessary documents, we will notify you in about two weeks with the result of your application, as well as the status of your transfer credits. Please contact your Paul Smith’s admission counselor with any questions you have about the application process.
Generally, courses in which you have achieved a C- or higher will transfer toward your degree at Paul Smith’s College, as long as there is a comparable course offered that applies toward the particular track of study you have selected. Courses transferred in must come from an accredited college or university, as determined by the Registrar’s Office. Your GPA from any prior college work does not transfer; only the credits do.
Upon acceptance to Paul Smith’s College you will receive a transcript evaluation to outline which of your courses transferred for credit, along with the courses you need to complete in order to earn your bachelor’s degree. If you are enrolling in a four-year bachelor’s degree program at Paul Smith’s, a maximum of 90 credit hours can be applied. If you are entering a two-year associate degree program at Paul Smith’s, a maximum of 30 credit hours can be applied.
Merit Scholarships for Transfer Students
Students transferring to Paul Smith’s College may be eligible to receive a merit scholarship based upon the materials submitted with their application for admission. These scholarships range in value from $6,000 to $10,000 per academic year and are renewable for up to 8 semesters if you maintain full-time enrollment and meet academic requirements.
Transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa may be eligible for additional merit scholarship funds – contact your admissions counselor today to see if you qualify!
