Paul Smith's College Canoe Team wins Collegiate Relay in Canton Canton Canoe Weekend – Paul Smith's College Marathon Canoe Team results
Collegiate Relay Champions: The Paul Smiths College collegiate paddlers, consisting of Allan Powers, Matt Carmen, Anthony Lisella, Matt Piper, Elizabeth Quandt, and De Anna Wasiewski won the Canton Canoe Weekend relay event in an overall time of 19:52, to retain the collegiate title. Various Paul Smith’s College student paddlers have used Little Brown Pig to win the Canton Canoe Weekend’s relay race for several years. Little Brown Pig has won the Oswegatchie 25 Mile Relay race for three consecutive years and has been paddled to victory in several Adirondack Canoe Classics.
The St. Lawrence University’s Outing Club’s canoe placed second in 22:10, while the closest overall canoe to The Little Brown Pig of the Paul Smith’s College team was The Massena Globetrotters who completed the three stage course in 21:01.
Various Paul Smith’s College student paddlers have used Little Brown Pig to win the Canton Canoe Weekend’s relay race for several years, and have also paddled it to victory in the Oswegatchie 25 Mile Relay race for three consecutive years and to victory in several Adirondack Canoe Classics.
Most of these paddlers were members of the New York State Collegiate C-4 championship team this past September on Long Lake. Allan Powers, Anthony Lisella, Elizabeth Quandt and De Anna Wasiewski paddled to victory over Colgate University and Hamilton College in the first collegiate state championships.
Frank White Award to the fastest solo Recreational Canoe: Paul Smith’s College student, Rand Snyder won the 5 mile race in an overall time of 1:00:54 in the Black Widow. This canoe has won this race five years now.
Rushton Cup to the fastest C-2 men’s Recreational Canoe: Allan Powers and Matt Carman, Paul Smith's College. Powers and Carman paddled the 5 mile Grasse River course in the Little Brown Pig in an overall time of 51:49. Little Brown Pig has won this event for most of the past eight seasons.
C-2 Men’s Recreation Unlimited winner: PSC Nordic Ski Coach Stefan Bibb and our top Nordic skier, Matt Piper of Paul Smith's College teamed together in Corncob to win the five mile race in 50:43. Bibb and Piper were the first boat to cross the line in the five mile event, with over 20 boats starting together.
