Weekend Soccer Update —

Two Wins, One Loss, and One Tie for Paul Smith’s College Soccer Teams.

On Saturday, the Bobcat women established an early 4-0 lead over a short-sided College of St. Joseph team, reducing their numbers along the way to even the sides. Sophomores Britny Town and Megan Ceplo each scored one goal, as did freshmen Kara Nipper and Elizabeth Matalavage. Town, Nipper, and sophomore Rebekah Kruppenbacher each had an assist, while freshman Goalkeeper Asenath Brooks recorded 1 save and her second shutout.

The men held strong against a very physical Saints team, out shooting them 32-7 until senior Kris Klinkbeil finished them off with a 3rd minute overtime goal assisted by junior Ryan Lawley. Sophomore goalkeeper Harrison Turk recorded 6 saves and his first shutout.

On Sunday Paul Smith’s hosted Division III Johnson State College. The JSC women have dominated their opponents this season, scoring 38 goals in 4 matches, including two 14-0 shutouts. The PSC women held the Badgers to only 4 goals, playing an aggressive and skillful match while possessing the ball for most of the 90 minutes. Brooks recorded 15 saves, and the 0-4 defeat leaves the women with a 3-3 record overall but still undefeated in the Yankee Small College Conference!

The Bobcat men faced off against the Badgers in a thrilling display of skill, speed, and toughness. Johnson State struck first with a goal in the 14th minute. The PSC defense controlled their side of the field for the remainder of the match, setting up a 65th minute goal by sophomore Anthony Ventello assisted by senior defender Kyle Riedman. The game extended into two 10-minute overtimes and ended in a 1-1 tie. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Little recorded 14 saves and remains one of the USCAA’s top goalies. The Bobcats retain their undefeated record at 4-0-1 as they prepare to face off against Word of Life Bible Institute Thursday.

Both the men and women host Hampshire College on Saturday, September 24 at 3pm and 5pm.
