PSC XC Teams place second at Southern Vermont College's Mountaineer Invitational Team captain, Kyle Dash and Jessie Husmann paced the men’s and women’s teams respectively to second place finishes at the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT on Saturday, September 24th. Dash (JR: Java Village, NY/Pioneer HS) finished second overall in 31:32 over the extremely hilly 8K course, while Husmann (FR: Rochester, MN/Rochester Century HS) finished third overall in 23:10.
SUNY – Canton’s Justin Richardson won for the men in a time of 30:34, pacing his winning team, as they won with 32 points to overtake the Paul Smith’s College Bobcats with 38 points. There were a total of 81 finishers, and seven complete teams. SUNY – IT and Bard tied for third with a total of 104 points.
Other top finishers for the PSC men’s team include: Matt Piper (SR: Morrisville, VT/People’s Academy) in 3rd (32:16), Ben Palladino (SO: Tully, NY/Tully HS) in 8th (32:57), and Eric Kowalik (JR: Akron, NY/Akron HS) in 10th (33:27). The Bobcats had a total of sixteen runners in this event; by far the largest team in attendance.
Team captain for the women, Ashley Rokjer (JR: Berlin, NY/Berlin HS) finished third overall for the women in 23:37, while Ana Hull (FR: Madrid, NY/home-schooled) finished in 20th with a time of 26:00. Lea Anthony (FR: Bedford, MA/Greater Bedford Regional HS) finished in 26:47 in 25th overall followed closely by Alexandra Hanlon (SO: Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro HS) in 27:11. A total of eight runners from the Paul Smith’s College women’s team completed the 5K course.
Mount St. Mary’s College won the Mountaineer Invitational with twenty-six points, followed by PSC with 66 points. There were six complete women’s teams, and three incomplete teams that took part. Nicole Zazzero won for Mount St. Mary’s in a time of 22:36; while her fellow team-mate Emily Stafford finished second in 23:04. MSM had all five of its scoring runners in the top ten.
Paul Smith’s College harriers will travel to Cazenovia College this coming weekend to take part in their annual invitational on October 1st.
