Soccer teams win 1 lose 1 over weekend The Paul Smith’s College men’s soccer team recorded another shutout Saturday, defeating Hampshire College 5-0. The defense held Hampshire to only 8 shots, and PSC possessed the ball for nearly the entire 90 minutes. Freshmen Max Curtiss and Drew Ryder each scored one, as did sophomore central defender Chris Evans. Sophomore Anthony Ventello scored two, one assisted by freshman Alex Roache. Goalkeeper Harrison Turk made 5 saves and adds another shutout to his record.
The men’s record moves to 6-0-1 as they prepare for three away contests: SUNY Canton on Wednesday followed by a weekend schedule against Hampshire College and NHTI. The next home game for the men is on October 7 at 6pm against Word of Life Bible Institute.
The women’s team fought a tough battle, but was defeated by Hampshire 2-1. Hampshire took an early lead, and the Bobcats came back in the 33rd minute with a long shot by senior Joelle Guisti to tie it at 1-1. Hampshire then retaliated in the 40th minute with a breakaway goal and held the lead through the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Asenath Brooks recorded 11 saves.
The women are 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the YSCC. They travel to Clinton Community College this Wednesday before heading to Hampshire and NHTI on the weekend. They return home to host NCCC on October 5 at 6:30.
