Message from the Coach
The Paul Smith's College Woodsmen's Team was established in 1947 and quickly established a reputation as having the most competitive collegiate lumberjacks in the East. This co-ed team competes in a variety of old-time logging events ranging from chopping and sawing, to axe-throwing and log birling. The Paul Smith's Team lays claim to having the longest winning streak in the history of intercollegiate lumberjack sports, winning the Super Bowl of lumberjacking, known as Spring Meet, from 1957-1966.
These axe-wielding lumberjacks continue to dominate, having qualified for the Stihl® Timbersports® Collegiate Series every year since 2002. The Paul Smith's Woodsmen can be seen regularly competing on ESPN, as well as practicing every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night at the Paul Smith's Forestry Club Cabin.
