What is your favorite activity in the Adirondacks?
Summer is my favorite time of year. I love to go for walks around "the ridge" out by my house where the views of the back side of Whiteface Mountain are breathtaking. One of my favorite things to do is to sit on my front deck and watch the sun set behind a small mountain ridge across the road from my house. The colors in the sky are phenomenal. I have recently taken up snowshoeing; it's definitely a work in progress!
What is your favorite restaurant and why?
If I'm in Lake Placid, I usually find myself dining at Lisa G's (owned by an alum of Paul Smith's College). The wings there are fantastic and from personal experience I can say that if you like them hot, you certainly won't be disappointed. In Saranac Lake, Casa Del Sol is my favorite. I've been eating there for years and have had almost everything on the menu. The Chipotle Shrimp is outstanding. Sensing a pattern? I love spicy food!!
What is the best part of being a recruiter at Paul Smith's College?
Having worked for Paul Smith's College for almost 10 years, I've had the great fortune of helping many students realize their potential, whether through Admissions or in my previous role in Academic Support. Now, as the person in charge of Veteran Recruitment and Retention
(and a very proud Army mom), I have the honor of working with our servicemen and women who wish to begin or continue their education. Nothing is more satisfying than knowing that the time I've spent assisting one of these men or women, who have given so freely of themselves for our country, has made a difference in their lives.
What brought you to the Adirondacks and why do you stay?
As a fifth-generation "Adirondacker", birth brought me here. Love of area and my very large, extended family is why I stay. Also, you can't beat the North Country when it comes to hospitality and a sense of community.
Tell me about one of the really cool events or professors at Paul Smith's College that make it such a special place...
We have so many great events and professors that picking one is pretty tough. I'd have to say that one Professor that really stands out is Chef Dave Gotzmer. He is the Veterans Club advisor and a favorite in the culinary programs. As for events, I always look forward to watching the Woodsmen's team and other PSC students participating in the annual Saranac Lake Winter Carnival parade. The floats they come up with are fantastic!
