The goals for Orientation are twofold. First, the college wants to make you comfortable with the beautiful campus centered in the wonderful Adirondack Mountains. College is different than high school. It takes a while to switch your perspective and feel comfortable and prepared. During your Orientation sessions you will meet new and returning students, stay in a residence hall, see many parts of campus and have time to ask all your questions. This will help you begin the process of transitioning from high school to college.
Second, Orientation sessions are designed to prepare you logistically and academically. Many tasks, including student IDs, parking stickers, and your class schedule, will be addressed in order to devote more time during the fall orientation to incorporate you into the college's community of learners. There will also be time for those who need to take competency tests. The schedule you create in these sessions will be used to build your class schedule, which you will receive while you are here.
