Contributing to Society’s Health and Wellness

We learn best by doing – at Paul Smith’s College that often involves helping to solve real-world problems. In recent years our students have partnered with the New York State Department of Health to contribute public health research to help monitor the spread of tick-borne diseases in the region.

Using skills gained from courses in entomology, statistics, ecology and GIS, students in our biology degree program have collected and identified ticks from 7 counties. Their samples will be used to help protect residents and visitors from as many as 5 tick-borne diseases.
