Regents’ Approve New Name for Paul Smith’s College

The New York State Board of Regents today gave its approval to a proposal from Paul Smith’s College to add the name of philanthropist and former Paul Smith’s Chair Joan Weill alongside that of the founding family, creating Joan Weill-Paul Smith’s College. 

The proposal, which also requires approval from the state court system, is made in conjunction with a transformational naming gift pledge from Weill and her husband, Sanford, the retired chairman of CitiGroup.  Read more »

A new name proposed for Paul Smith’s College

In recognition of two decades of volunteer leadership and unprecedented financial support from philanthropists Joan and Sanford Weill, the Board of Trustees of Paul Smith’s College announced today that it is seeking approval from the New York State Board of Regents and the New York State court to add Joan Weill’s name alongside that of the founding family, creating Joan Weill-Paul Smith’s College. Wooden canoe show returns to Paul Smith's College

Hundreds of vintage canoes will be on display next week at Paul Smith's College when the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association returns for its 36th annual assembly.

The event will be held Tuesday-Sunday, July 14-19, on the college's Great Lawn. It features an introduction to canoe sailing, a tour of the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, hands-on workshops, children's programing and much more.

Paul Smith’s College appoints new VP of Business and Finance

Marty Hanifin has been named vice president for Business and Finance at Paul Smith’s College. He begins his new role on Aug. 10.

Student lands paper in peer-reviewed scientific journal

A Paul Smith's College senior published a paper in the upcoming issue of Restoration Ecology, the journal of the Society for Ecological Restoration. 

Forestry major Nathan Piché worked on the paper as part of his senior capstone research project, which explored the recovery rate of soil on abandoned farmland.  Read more »

Transforming the Adirondacks into a high-school classroom

Go birding, explore the St. Regis Wilderness Area, track wildlife and discover the mysteries of Adirondack forests: These are some of the hands-on experiences waiting for high school students in the Adirondack Field Ecology program at Paul Smith's College.

Food entrepreneurship workshop in the works

Culinary, hospitality and business experts at Paul Smith's College have developed a tailored program to help budding entrepreneurs explore their ideas for food-related businesses. Open to the public and located on the Paul Smith's College campus, the "Foodpreneur" agenda includes creative workshops, practical instruction and professional feedback over the course of three days in July. Paul Smith's College appoints Nicholas Hunt-Bull as provost

Paul Smith's College announced Tuesday that Nicholas Hunt-Bull will take the helm as provost on July 1.

Hunt-Bull will replace Richard Nelson, who has been named president of Nicolet College in Wisconsin.

"I'm very excited to serve as provost on one of the most beautiful campuses in the country," Hunt-Bull said. "I embrace Paul Smith's focus on career relevant majors and hands-on education and look forward to sharpening and expanding the college's tradition of excellence." Read more »
