Field school exposes HS students to Adirondacks

Go birding, explore the St. Regis Wilderness Area, track wildlife and discover the mysteries of Adirondack forests: These are some of the hands-on experiences waiting for high school students in the new Adirondack Field Ecology program at Paul Smith's College.

The program, aimed at students interested in biodiversity conservation and wilderness ecology, will run from August 2-16. It will be taught by Paul Smith's College faculty members and open to students who have completed their junior or senior year of high school. Read more »

Check out the Live Moth Cam!

Paul Smith's College Prof. Janet Mihuc, who leads Project Silkmoth, has donated a columbia silkmoth cocoon to the Wild Center in Tupper Lake to raise and release - see the live moth cam here! One of the moths emerged on Sunday, May 25.

The columbia silkmoth can be found in the Adirondacks from late May through June, but little is known about their population here. Mihuc, an entomologist, is studying the species. Read more »

Community leaders speak at Commencement

Jim Herman and David Mason, who have spearheaded several grassroots groups devoted to improving life in the Adirondack Park and their hometown of Keene, N.Y., will speak at the 67th Commencement exercises at Paul Smith's College on Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m.
