Paul Smith's College recognized nationally for student success program

Paul Smith’s College has been recognized by University Business magazine as a Spring 2015 Models of Excellence recipient. One of only 10 colleges and universities across the country to receive the award, Paul Smith’s was selected for its innovative approach to student academic success. 

The Models of Excellence program is sponsored by Higher One, a leading provider of financial services and data analytics to more than 1,900 college and university campuses across the United States.  Read more »

Experienced leaders join college executive team

Paul Smith's College announced Monday that two new members have joined its leadership team.

Peter Burns, vice president for Enrollment Management at Hilbert College in Hamburg, N.Y., will join Paul Smith's as vice president for Enrollment Management in May, and Shannon Oborne, former vice president of Marketing at Tribune Media Services, came aboard Monday as the college's new chief marketing officer. Almost Famous

Paul Smith's College senior Dominick Tironi will face off against some of the best culinary students in North America next month when he heads to Napa Valley, Calif., for his chance to win the coveted S.Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef title and a one-year paid apprenticeship with a celebrity chef. 

Two gifts provide $3 million for academics, athletics

Three longtime benefactors have given a pair of gifts worth $3 million to Paul Smith’s College, in support of academic as well as athletic and recreation programs on campus. 

E. Philip Saunders, the chairman of the college’s Board of Trustees, has donated $2 million to go toward athletics and recreation programs as well as renovations of the college’s athletics center; Joan and Sanford Weill have given an additional $1 million that will support program development, enrollment and other college operations.  Read more »

New report: Paul Smith's injects millions into North Country economy

Paul Smith's College generates about $76 million for the economy of the North Country region, according to a recent report by the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities. 

A breakdown of the report shows that the college contributes nearly $64 million in spending and construction to the region’s economy, while students and visitors to the college spend more than  $12 million.  Read more »

Local environmentalist kicks off lecture series with citizen-science talk

The owner of the environmental consulting firm Adirondack Research will kick off the Fisheries and Wildlife Science Seminar Series Friday, Jan. 30, at Paul Smith's College. 

Ezra Schwartzberg will speak at 10:10 a.m. in the Freer Auditorium. His talk is titled “Citizen Science and Collaborative Approaches to Climate Change Research in the Adirondacks.”  Read more »

Paul Smith's, NYSERDA partner on renewable energy

Paul Smith's College is installing a highly sustainable, state-of-the-art wood-pellet boiler system, which will heat its three academic buildings. 

This project is one of the first uses in New York State of a high-efficiency and low-emission wood pellet boiler heating system to heat multiple buildings, and one of five sites in the North Country planning to install this technology.  Read more »

President Dove heads to White House

President Cathy S. Dove joined President Barack Obama, the first lady and Vice President Joe Biden Thursday, Dec. 4, at the White House for a summit on college access and success. 

Dove was invited to the event, titled The White House College Opportunity Day of Action, in recognition of Paul Smith's ongoing ability to help first generation students attain college degrees. Read more »
