In December 2012, Paul Smith's College announced plans to go tobacco-free on Aug. 1, 2014 - now just 6 months away.
At the time, Paul Smith's President John W. Mills said health and sustainability were behind the change. "Tobacco use is the most preventable cause of death in the United States," Mills said in a statement to the campus community, citing statistics from the Centers for Disease Control that found more than 443,000 people a year die from tobacco use. On Wednesday, March 12, Paul Smith’s College will celebrate “Thanks for Giving Day” with a free lunch in Lakeside Dining Hall, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Employees and students are encouraged to attend lunch wearing their favorite Paul Smith’s gear.
