What is Starfish and why am I getting 'flags' in my email?
Starfish is an electronic communication system your instructors can use to notify your advisor and our support offices that you may need assistance in
one (or more) of the following areas:
- Attendance
- Low Grades
- Missing Work
- Midterm grade below a C
- 5 or more absences for the semester
Your instructors can also comment on your achievement in class by offering you a "Kudo" for your recent improvement. When Starfish flags are raised,
notices are sent to your advisor and to the Academic Success Center offices. They are also sent directly to your PSC email account so you know when
your faculty is concerned or pleased with your performance and you can take action quickly to address any problems.
- Steps to take if you receive a flag:
- Contact your instructor to fully understand the notice
- Contact an Academic Success Counselor to develop a plan and turn around your status
- Contact your academic advisor for advice
Make Appointments! If you need to meet with your academic advisor, or an Academic Success Counselor, or with a member from student
development, find that person's name in your "Success Network" at the bottom left hand side of your Starfish page. Click on the link to whomever
you want to meet and select a day and time that works best for you - no more emailing back and forth for a week; make an appointment 24/7 right from
your room.
