The PSC Career Center provides services for all current students and alumni. Its interactive website, PSC CAREER CENTRAL, allows 24-hour-a-day access
to post resumes and other application material, and to view employer-generated job postings. A large resource library, including several forms of
media, as well as hundreds of web links to employment resources are available to assist in job search and career research. Career Services
arranges for many employment recruiters to visit campus throughout the year and hosts two annual Job Fairs right on campus. Since approved
resumes are strongly suggested for all on-campus recruiters and for advertising on PSC CAREER CENTRAL, the office offers workshops, classroom
presentations and one-on-one help with resume creation.
For students looking for further education, the office provides counseling, graduate guides, GRE applications and study
material, and a collection of New York State and nationwide college catalogs. College recruiters from graduate programs occasionally visit campus
to recruit students, supplying them with information and answering any questions they might have regarding advanced degrees. The Career Center
also offers guidance regarding applications, essays and graduate pre-testing, as well as transfer information for programs that Paul Smith's
does not offer that a student may decide to pursue at another institution.
Students that need help with career focus (i.e. Is their major right for them? What area of their field should they pursue, etc.) are able
to use FOCUS our Career Exploration online program that is very user friendly and uses follow-up Career Counseling to help students feel confident in their career direction.
Career Services surveys each graduating class three times during the year after graduation to obtain statistics regarding job attainment or
further schooling. Surveys have been administered in a consistent manner from year to year and show five year data spreads on salary, percentages
of students going into the job market or colleges, and response rate. Also included are job titles and employers, majors and colleges for transfer,
student comments, and student satisfaction responses. These surveys are then distributed to the college community upon completion for their information
and use in strategic planning.
The Career Center is located on the lower floor of Phelps Administration Building in room #009. You can contact the Career Coordinator at 518-327-6082.
