Lost and Found

Paul Smith's College's Office of Campus Safety is the central repository for Lost and Found items on Campus. It is the Policy of Paul Smith's College to attempt to contact and return all found items to their rightful owners in accordance with New York State Law. Any item that is unclaimed and unable to be returned will be turned over to the party that found the item as described by law, destroyed, or donated.

All lost and found items are stored in a secure location until the owner claims them. Items found or turned in to other campus departments should be forwarded immediately to the Department of Campus Safety. Listed below are procedures to be followed:

  1. Turn lost items in to Lost and Found at the Campus Safety Building as soon as possible, but not later than the end of the business day on which they were found. After hours, call 518-327-6300 for the Officer(s) on duty.
  2. To report lost items call Campus Safety at 518-327-6300 or fill out the form below.
  3. Items of value such as wallets, purses, keys, backpacks, and electronic devices should be immediately forwarded to the Office of Campus Safety. If the lost item(s) includes any identifying information, please make immediate attempts to contact the owner. If unsuccessful, turn property over to Campus Safety, who will attempt to contact the owner directly.
  4. All unclaimed property and unidentifiable property will be entered in the lost and found database and stored in a secured location within the Office of Campus Safety.
  5. Unclaimed residence hall or PSC keys will be kept for one week. If unclaimed after one week the keys will be turned over to Student Affairs (residence hall keys) or Facilities (all other PSC keys).
  6. Unclaimed IDs such as driver's license or state IDs, checkbooks, credit/debit cards, and the like will be mailed to the designated address or business office after one week.
  7. To attempt to ensure lost items are returned to the rightful owners, persons claiming items will be asked to describe the items and to provide picture identification. Claimants must sign for items before the items will be released to them.
  8. Unclaimed found items will be held for year from the date of entry. After one year the item will be turned over to the finder-if applicable, destroyed, or donated.
