SSS Staff - Monica G. Buriello

Tom HuberOn August 1st, 2005 I began work as the TRiO - Student Support Services Counselor here at Paul Smith's College. The program continues to grow and evolve as we become more knowledgeable about the school and our students needs.

As far as my educational background, I received an Associate in Science Degree with a concentration in Biology from Adirondack Community College in Queensbury, NY; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Union College in Schenectady, NY; and a Master of Science Degree in Education, Counseling, with a concentration in College Student Personnel from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY.

While pursuing my master's degree I completed three internships: Career Advisor, Personal Counselor, and HEOP (Higher Education Opportunity Program) Counselor; the first was at Siena College, the other two were at The College of Saint Rose. My work history includes: Career Advisor at Siena College; Career Counselor and Assistant Director of Career Services at Russell Sage College, and Assistant Director of HEOP/Learning Support Specialist (i.e., coordinator of the tutoring program) at Russell Sage College.

I have two daughters - Heather and Brianna, and three very spoiled cats - Mahoney, Tahoe and Sierra. I moved into the Adirondacks from Troy, NY and am originally from a very small town near Cooperstown (Baseball Hall of Fame), NY. I love to travel and have lived in various places across the country including Kansas City, MO; Atlanta, GA; Auburn, WA; and even spent a few months in Dallas and Houston, TX.

Although now living in the Adirondacks, my interests generally don't include wilderness activities. I do enjoy a short, gentle hike now and then and love to go fishing (in warm weather!). Mostly in my spare time I like spending time with friends and family, watching movies and reality shows (yes, I love them), reading, shooting pool, and going to museums and concerts. In a nutshell... simply experiencing life. Oh and I finally tried snowshoeing the end of last winter... it didn't kill me! If you're interested in giving it a shot...let's talk!
