John Dillon Park
Hundreds of people with disabilities have had a chance to explore the Adirondack wilderness since International
Paper opened John Dillon Park, a fully accessible wilderness park, in 2006. The park is managed by
faculty, staff and students of Paul Smith's.
The 200-acre park is about an hour from the college, outside Long Lake, N.Y. Its nine lean-tos, one
tent site and gently graded trails are located within a 15,800-acre working forest. In maintaining the park,
the college tends to both nature and guests: students might perform trail maintenance in the morning and lead
an excursion on Grampus Lake or Handsome Pond in the afternoon.
The park is named for John Dillon, a college alumnus and retired chief executive of International Paper.
