If the nurse determines that a student has an acute need and cannot wait on doctor hours at the clinic, she will refer the student to Medical Associates in Saranac Lake. If Medical Associates are unavailable, the nurse will refer the student to Adirondack Medical Center ER or Mountain Medical Urgent Care. Again, transportation is the student’s responsibility.
The nurse may schedule student appointments at Medical Associates due to a scheduling conflict or need for a lengthy visit, but only after she has trianged the student. Student Health Services must make these appointments. If students attempt to make their own appointments, they may be refused or charged as a private patient.
Appointments made at any other office in the area for specialty reasons, should be honored. It is the students’ responsibility to get there. If they are unable to keep the appointment, they should notify either Health Services of the specialty office as soon as possible.
