Student Life & Housing
The Paul Smith’s experience is a community experience. The Office of Student Life & Housing works with students, faculty and staff to build a college community that’s respectful, diverse, supportive and fun. Our goal is to cultivate a campus environment where you can achieve your full academic potential and engage with each another as friends, classmates and fellow Smitties.
We have more than 1,000 students, and nearly all of them live on campus in one of 16 residence halls. Each of our residence halls is designed for comfort and convenience with wifi Internet connectivity, laundry facilities, quiet study spaces and common social areas with TVs, pool tables and games. Some residence halls are charming historic homes and others are modern interpretations of traditional Adirondak architecture.
Most freshmen live in dorm-style halls in doubles, triples or quadruples, while upperclassmen can choose from singles and even apartment-style buildings with full kitchens. Several buildings are designed as alcohol-free Wellness Halls, where students observe a 24-hour quiet policy. Resident Assistants (RAs) live in each residence hall to help you make a successful transition to college life and address any questions or concerns.
Although we encourage all Paul Smith’s students to live on campus, we understand that it’s not always practical, particularly for older students. That’s why we allow all Paul Smith’s students to apply for permission to live off-campus. In general, permission to live off-campus is given to students who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- At least 23 years of age
- Living at home with parents or guardian within 20-40 miles of campus
- Living with a dependent child
- Married or entered into a civil union
- Veteran with at least one year of active military service
- Lived within a Paul Smith’s residence hall for at least four consecutive semesters
Dining & Meal Plans
Paul Smith’s Dining Services serves delicious and nutritious meals and snacks in the Lakeside Dining Hall seven days a week.
