Experienced leaders join college executive team

Paul Smith's College announced Monday that two new members have joined its leadership team.

Peter Burns, vice president for Enrollment Management at Hilbert College in Hamburg, N.Y., will join Paul Smith's as vice president for Enrollment Management in May, and Shannon Oborne, former vice president of Marketing at Tribune Media Services, came aboard Monday as the college's new chief marketing officer. Paul Smith's College senior Dominick Tironi will face off against some of the best culinary students in North America next month when he heads to Napa Valley, Calif., for his chance to win the coveted S.Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef title and a one-year paid apprenticeship with a celebrity chef.

Pictures from 2014 Commencement

Community leaders Jim Herman and Dave Mason urged Paul Smith's graduates to have a vision - and a backup plan - as they head into the world.

The pair, Keene residents who have spearheaded several grassroots groups devoted to improving life in the Adirondacks and their hometown of Keene, N.Y., delivered the commencement address at the college's 67th Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 10.

Approximately 350 students graduated with the Class of 2014.

"Dean of Fun" Snowshoe Mag's Person of the Year

Snowshoe Magazine recognized Athletic Director Jim Tucker for his contributions to the sport by awarding him the 2014 Cindy Brochman Memorial Person of the Year Award.

“Jim Tucker is likely the number one most important figure in the sport, though his modesty would keep him from agreeing to such a comment,” said Phillip Smith, senior editor at Snowshoe Magazine, in an article on the magazine's website. Read more »

Alum leads $1M endowment with major matching gift

A $1 million campaign to endow a position for an internationally recognized climate expert at Paul Smith's College has been staked with a major matching gift.

Caroline Lussi, a 1960 graduate of Paul Smith's and a former college trustee, has offered a matching challenge of up to $500,000 to establish the college's first Endowed Chair in Lake Ecology and Paleoecology, the first recipient of which will be Curt Stager. Read more »
