Paul Smith's, ACC to partner on four-year hotel, resort and tourism management degree - 2009-04-02
QUEENSBURY - Paul Smith’s College and Adirondack Community College will be
offering ACC business students the opportunity to earn a four-year degree in
Hotel, Resort and Tourism Management through ACC’s J. Buckley Bryan Jr., ACC
‘87, ‘94 Regional Higher Education Center beginning this fall.
Officials from both institutions signed a memorandum of understanding at ACC on
April 2, paving the way for the bachelor of science degree to be offered
starting in September. ACC president Dr. Ronald C. Heacock and Paul Smith’s
College president Dr. John W. Mills were present at the signing, as were
academic officials from both institutions.
The hotel, resort and tourism management degree would be the first of the
four-year programs Paul Smith’s College is bringing to ACC.
“Making higher education more accessible to North Country citizens is a major
commitment at Paul Smith’s College, and this will let us bring our well-known
brand of experiential education to an ever wider audience,” said Dr. Mills of
Paul Smith’s College. “We’re proud to partner with ACC on this initiative and
hope to offer even more degree programs with them in the future.”
“This is just another step we are taking to make four-year degrees available to
our students, and in a field which is important to the area’s economy,” said Dr.
Heacock of ACC. “We expect many of our students to take advantage of this
opportunity.”
Graduates of any of ACC’s business degree programs will be able to earn
four-year HRTM degrees through Paul Smith’s College by taking hybrid courses at
the Regional Higher Education Center every five weeks. Students would meet one
night a week for each course, and every five weeks a new course would be
offered. There would be no overlapping of ACC courses with Paul Smith’s
courses, and discounts in tuition and other expenses would be offered to ACC
business students who enroll in the B.S. degree program.
