Smitty Creek WatershedPAUL SMITH'S COLLEGE AFS STUDENT SUBUNIT
Smitty Creek watershed provides a network of 6 stream reaches that we have monitored since 2004 – 15 years! The primary focus is on brook trout but we also collect data on all other fish species. Students gain experience setting up a reach, using standard electrofishing gear to collect fish, and analyzing changes in catch rates over time.
A number of senior research projects have taken place in Smitty Creek Watershed ranging from the effects of beaver dams on fish community structure, fish diet comparisons, associations of climate data and fish abundance, and overwinter changes in brook trout densities. Stay tuned for more information and further details on our previous work at Smitty Creek!
