DEPARTMENT UPDATES

· Campus Safety: Greg Landon RAD instructor now

· Counseling-online or in person appointments and Mason can work remotely

· Need new cochair- if anybody is interested please let Nicola know
IN THE NEWS
Tid Bit: Title IX updates

· 129b already had us on track

· Much higher than bare minimum

· Technical & legalistic challenges

· Actual knowledge-’responsible employee’

· No legal reason to pursue unless Title IX person has been notified—keeping mandated reporters on our campus

· Sexual harassment-3 categories

· Quid pro quo, unwelcome severe conduct (standard a little higher now for Title IX), sexual assault dating violence domestic violence and stalking (VAWA)

· Advisors-always recommended them; now live hearings are required to have one either brought or assigned because cross examination is now allowed

· All parties must be clearly heard and seen by the other

· Preponderance of the evidence—applies to employee and student cases

· Informal resolutions are now allowed; Teresa will have the decision to see if it’s appropriate and both parties must agree to it (can revert process back anytime)

· Social media code of conduct additions

· Now has geography

· Need to have control of building that it’s happening in & in the United States

· Office campus incidents? Student would receive mandatory dismissal letter—potential of being confusing to students

· Regardless of Title IX qualifying or not, it will fall under a college violation category and go through the same process

· Now have federal law to go through adjudication process instead of recommendations

· ‘supportive measures’-non disciplinary and non-punitive (unless it hits a very high level of concern for the campus community)

· An advisor must ask the questions to the other person or witnesses

· All statements not submitted to cross examination then anything they have told us cannot be used for the case

· Training requirements-whole lot higher

· Conflict of interest and bias

· Report and rationale writing

· Appeals and more

· 9/3 all day conduct board training

· All this work may be reversed next year if the election changes things

COVID CONCERNS

· Passing out condoms on campus

· Concerns about under reporting

· Outside organizations? Responsibility by the department to make sure they are screened-mission critical

· Amnesty policy for COVID? Will not be bringing people in for that—should we put it out there? We need people to observe them, but not sure best way to go about it

Chalkboard as marketing tools

· Advertising on sidewalks by chalk or chalk paint

· Creating chalkboards on campus with paint or removable panels

·         Designate those spaces for care team and counseling center

· Prevention education and general programming –cut down on paper costs and different than the flyers

· Know of good spaces for that? -please send to Shakirra or Holly so they can purchase panels and supplies

Marketing CARE to the campus community

· Elevator speech about the CARE team and what it is that we do

· Show how and why we combat sexual assault and violence

· Send a photo and information about yourself to the CARE team

· Andy Johnstone can update the website as needed-wants an idea of how the layout should look

· Shannon-flyers have been the best way for information, so chalk example will be a great new way

· Social media accounts (Instagram) – agency that manages the accounts harvests from those accounts and cross share

PEER Educators · Student support for Nicola · 2 already possible
Times for future meetings · Will be updating soon · Complete survey
Subcommittees introductions for new members & new subcommittee?

· Capital improvements

· Speakers and specialized programs

· Presenters –men can stop rape

· Policies and procedures

· Adding an engaging men subcommittee (overlap with speakers committee; should we just include this into it unless vision is different)
