Offered in partnership with NOLS Northeast, the Adirondack Outdoor Leadership Expedition is a three-part experiential leadership course that blends online learning, on-campus wilderness skills training, and a multi-day backcountry expedition in the Adirondack Park. It’s designed for high school or college students aged 16-20 who want outdoor leadership experience and academic credit. Upon successful completion, participants will earn 3 college credits and a Wilderness First Aid certification.
Over the course of three weeks, participants will:
- On Campus (July 26–30): Learn Wilderness First Aid, trip preparation, risk management, and map/compass work
- On Expedition (July 31–Aug 7): Practice backcountry leadership, including navigation, decision-making, group dynamics, and camping and other backcountry skills
- Online (Aug 8–15): Learn Forest Preserve stewardship, orientation to natural and cultural factors, background of recreation value
Program cost is $2150 and covers tuition, fees, room and board.
