Agreement will Help Reduce Time and Lower Cost to Achieve College Degree for Apex Graduates and Open Up New Enrollment Opportunities for Paul Smith’s College

PAUL SMITHS, NY –Paul Smith’s College and Apex Technical School signed an agreement for Paul Smith’s to award any graduate of the Apex Technical School’s new Home Automation certificate program six college credits. This would allow graduates of Apex’s workforce certification program to attain a college degree faster and at a lower cost.

Apex’s new Home Automation certificate program will train students for jobs in high demand sectors, like green energy—including learning skills to install digital smart grid systems to reduce energy consumption. Today’s agreement allows these graduates to get additional educational opportunities at Paul Smith’s College to also complete an Associates and/or Bachelor degree.

“Today’s agreement is exciting for Paul Smith’s College because this partnership with Apex creates a new pipeline of prospective students who are interested in our core programs from business management to environmental science,” said Catherine Lalonde, Interim Provost at Paul Smith’s College. “Apex’s graduates will be ready for our programs because our faculty review found their certificate to be comprehensive and aligned to our core programs and mission.”

“We are pleased to be able to offer our graduates additional educational opportunities, especially with Paul Smith’s College—a college that offers hands on experiences to their students in many of the sectors our graduates are interested in,” said Steven Markowitz, President of Apex Technical School. “Even if our graduates enter the workforce upon completing their training, today’s agreement will provide them additional upskilling opportunities throughout their career. That’s a significant benefit.”

The curriculum analysis was conducted by Kate Glenn, Coordinator, Paul Smith’s Center for Sustainability under the direction of Dr. Peter Bradley, Assistant Provost.

The new Home Automation certificate will be a major component of The Fedcap Group’s new digital learning hub at Civic Hall in New York City. Civic Hall will officially open its doors in the first quarter of 2023.
