Biography

Dr. Cording is an Associate Professor of Environmental Science at Paul Smith’s College, research affiliate at the University of Hawai’i in the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) and Senior Ecological Designer at EcoSolutions, LLC. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Hawaii Chapter of the US Green Building Council until 2018. She is a scientist, ecological design practitioner and community advisor.

Amanda earned her PhD from the University of Vermont (UVM) Department of Plant and Soil Science. Her academic research is focused on maximizing the pollutant removal mechanisms in ecological design features such as bioretention, permeable pavement, and constructed wetlands. Her professional practice is focused on implementing sustainability practices at the building, landscape, and community scales.

She has worked in the environmental field for twenty years, in both the private and non-profit sectors, including projects in the northeastern U.S. as well as Colorado, India, Norway, Africa, and most recently Hawaii. This Fall she will be teaching Soils & Hydrology (FOR 330) at Paul Smith’s College.
