Preparing for Spring Break / Travel Precautions

To: Paul Smith’s College students
Delivered: March 3, 2020, at 3:22 p.m.

Greetings Smitties,

As we prepare for Spring Break, it is important to stay up-to-date on what is happening around the world with the COVID-19 or “Coronavirus.” We highly encourage any student, faculty, or staff member traveling in the coming weeks to monitor both the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s website:; and the State Department’s Travel Advisory website:

Paul Smiths College will continue to rely on the experts at the CDC and New York State, as well as Franklin County Public Health Departments to help guide our decision making. If any student/faculty/staff returns from a country with a travel advisory level 1 or 2 and they develop a fever or flu-like symptoms during the first 14-days back, it is imperative that Health Services and/or Adirondack Health is notified.

Paul Smiths will continue with its current flu policy. We ask anyone with a fever to stay away from campus until they are fever-free for at least 24-hours without the use of fever reducing medications i.e Tylenol. All individuals with flu/fever are asked to self isolate.

Everyone should continue to practice flu-season safety by washing hands thoroughly, covering their cough, disinfecting all surfaces, and refraining from sharing drinks/food.

We will continue to monitor CDC and State Health Department advisories and will update the community as new information becomes available. We ask all community members to also monitor the CDC website: in order to stay current on accurate information. As you may have heard, misinformation about this issue is rampant online and on social media.

Thank you, and have a safe and rejuvenating Spring Break!
