October 19, 2020
In accordance with New York State’s Phase 4 for re-opening and consistent with New York State Parks -The Paul Smith’s College VIC is currently operating as a day-use facility for property and trail access. Our trailhead parking lots, boat launches, and trail systems are open while the nature center remains closed.
There is no public access to the building at this time and until further notice, we anticipate opening the building to the public for the 2020-2021 Cross-Country Ski Season on December 1st. Until that time accommodations for accessing a restroom have been made by temporarily installing two portable toilets are located near the front of the main building.
Fresh, potable water is available at any operable external spigot around the main building.
You can download a trail map directly on our website, or by using mobile hiking apps including All Trails and Trail Hub. Paper copies of maps are available under the covered awning at the front of the building.
We are are taking reservations for our overnight lean-tos at this time at Black Pond, Little Black Pond and Long Pond.
Re-opening for the Cross-Country Ski Season will have requirements for staff and visitors alike. State Guidance for ski resorts was released on 10/18/20. We will follow conform to the State Guidance and require visitors to do so as well. Specific guidance applying to us includes: face masks are required at all times except when eating/ drinking or skiing, social distancing between parties required at all times, limiting ski lessons to no more than 10 people, thorough cleaning and disinfection of rental equipment, retail service conforming to State-issued guidance, and reduced capacity by 25% during “peak” days or if multiple trails are closed due to unseasonable conditions. We are hard at work preparing our trails and facility for the best ski season yet! Please be sure to do your part to make it safe and enjoyable for all visitors.
Please do your part to keep NYS Parks and the places like the VIC open and accessible to all by: planning your visit ahead of time, practicing social distancing, utilizing sanitation and personal protective equipment for yourself and other visitors, and remaining patient.
