The Northeastern LGBTQ+ conference is an annual event that a vast number of college students take part in. This year the conference was held at Stony Brook University in Long Island, New York. During the PSC Pride club’s three-day adventure at Stony Brook University, we attended many educational seminars on topics such as feminism in the LGBTQ+ community and LGBTQ+ in rural areas. In attending these seminars, my knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community was greatly broadened. Not only that, but we had an opportunity to hear some LGBTQ+ activists speak and provide us with information all based on their own life experiences. Along with that we were able to watch some slam poets tell us their stories. The conference also gave us a chance to meet many different people from all different walks of life, all brought to this place in an attempt to grow, find themselves, and more fully understand the LGBTQ+ community.  Being a freshman who did not fully come out about my sexuality until I came to college, this was my first time attending the conference, and from it I gained a very large amount useful knowledge about the LGBTQ+ community. Overall I feel very confident in saying the LGBTQ+ conference was a truly amazing experience. Not only was it educational, but it was also fun. We attended a mixer dance; everyone in attendance really enjoyed themselves. This conference brought the members of the PSC Pride Club closer, too. The conference really gave me a chance to take some time and figure out what I stand for and who I am as a person. The conference also taught me the steps I need to take in order to become comfortable in my own skin, and that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being different. I look forward to hopefully attending this event again next semester.
