Dr. Melanie H. Johnson is a Professor of GIS and Environmental Science at Paul Smith’s College. Originally from the Midwest, she holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Minnesota Moorhead, an M.S. in Geology from the University of North Dakota, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from the University of Idaho.
With more than 25 years of experience in the environmental field, Dr. Johnson works at the intersection of geospatial technology and conservation science. Her research and teaching emphasize the integration of remote sensing, GIS, and fieldwork to address real-world environmental challenges. She has collaborated on natural resource projects at both the state and local government levels and brings additional experience as a geological consultant.
