This 16th meeting of the Eastern Research Forest Managers will explore forest management and forestry education at one of the world’s most unique colleges. Paul Smith’s College sits on the lakefront site of Paul Smith’s famous 19th century wilderness resort, at the center of a 14,000 acre campus, in the heart of the largest protected area in the Continental U.S.—the six million acre Adirondack Park.
We will take a deep dive into the past, present and future of the Paul Smith’s College Forest, its management, and the role it plays in training the next generation of foresters. The meeting will consist of several days of field tours and workshops along with opportunities for some Adirondack lakeside leisure. There will be an excursion to explore the region’s history and culture and, of course, good food and cold drinks throughout and plenty of the “group therapy for foresters” that the ERFM meetings are known for.
