Paul Smith’s College Homeschool Admission Policies

Paul Smith’s College welcomes applications from homeschool students and values the unique perspectives and experiences that you bring to our campus. This is our homeschool admissions policy.

Admission Requirements for Homeschooled Students

Homeschooled students must provide documentation demonstrating successful completion of a high school equivalency program. This can be satisfied through one of the following:

1. New York State High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma

Homeschool students can obtain a New York State HSE diploma by passing the GED® test.

2. College Credits Demonstrating High School Equivalency

If the student has earned 24 college credits, including credits in these required subject areas, they may also meet the high school equivalency requirement:

  • English Language Arts: 6 credits
  • Mathematics: 3 credits
  • Natural Sciences: 3 credits
  • Social Sciences: 3 credits
  • Humanities: 3 credits
  • Additional courses applicable to a degree: 6 credits

3. District Letter of Completion (for New York Residents)

Homeschool students residing in New York State may provide a letter from their local school district confirming that they have completed the equivalent of a high school education.

4. State-Approved Homeschool Program Completion

Provide proof of completion of a homeschool curriculum that meets state requirements.

Supporting Documents

Homeschool students must submit the following documentation as part of their application:

  • A completed Paul Smith’s College application for admission.
  • A transcript or detailed outline of the homeschool curriculum, including courses completed and grades earned.
  • Standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, or GED®) if available.
  • Any additional documentation requested by the admissions team to evaluate educational background and readiness for college.

Additional Considerations

Paul Smith’s College is committed to working with homeschool students to make the application process straightforward and welcoming. If you have questions about your specific circumstances, please contact our Admissions Office for personalized guidance.

The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) is a collaboration between the New York State Department of Education and Paul Smith’s College. HEOP provides a means for traditionally underserved, low-income students to obtain admission as well as academic and financial support.

Students must meet both the academic and financial eligibility requirements to be considered for the program. Please reach out to your Admissions Counselor directly for more information or visit the HEOP page to learn more.

We are a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, along with accepting Post 9/11 GI Benefits. If you have questions about using these benefits to supplement your education costs, please contact the Financial Aid office at 518-327-6220 or financialaid@paulsmiths.edu for more information.
