Fisheries & Wildlife Sciences Major, Student Athlete Honored by the Northeast Section of The Wildlife Society
PAUL SMITHS, N.Y. – Paul Smith’s College is proud to announce that Delaney Curley ’26 has been named the recipient of the P.F. English Memorial Award, presented annually by the Northeast Section of The Wildlife Society (NE TWS) to an outstanding undergraduate senior in wildlife biology or wildlife management. The award was presented last week at the Northeast Fish & Wildlife Conference in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
The P.F. English Memorial Award is one of NE TWS’s most distinguished student honors and recognizes academic and professional excellence. It is presented to a single outstanding senior from among programs across the eleven northeastern states the section represents. Curley is the second Paul Smith’s College student to receive the award in as many years, following 2025 graduate Hannah Pryor.
Curley is pursuing her B.S. in Fisheries & Wildlife Sciences with a concentration in Wildlife. Her coursework, including Wildlife Techniques, Mammalogy, and Conservation Biology, has provided her with a strong foundation in the field. She is also a senior member of the Paul Smith’s College Women’s Basketball team where she has balanced the demands of collegiate athletics with a rigorous science curriculum.
Curley’s field experience spans both independent research and professional agency work. She is currently conducting an independent project examining coyote and deer interactions using game cameras. Last summer, she served as a wildlife technician for the Pennsylvania Game Commission, conducting goshawk nesting surveys, vegetation sampling, and deer management surveys, experiences that have given her a breadth of technical skills well beyond the typical undergraduate portfolio.
On campus, Curley serves as President of the Paul Smith’s College Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society, keeping the chapter active in local conservation efforts, facilitating participation in regional conferences, and maintaining its standing as a professional organization.
“Delaney is highly motivated with a deep passion for wildlife conservation. Her hands-on experiences and leadership abilities make her an outstanding representative of what this program and this college stand for,” said Dr. Valorie Titus, Associate Professor of Natural Resources Conservation and Management and Curley’s advisor. “I am so excited to see what she will achieve as a professional and am immensely proud of her for receiving this recognition.”
The award was formally presented as part of the annual awards ceremony of the Northeast Section of The Wildlife Society in conjunction with the Northeast Fish & Wildlife Conference. Curley is expected to graduate in spring 2026.
