As prescribed under New York State Penal Law (§265.01-a), it is a felony to possess a weapon on school grounds, without written authorization of such educational institution. Paul Smith’s College permits students to store approved firearms (rifles, shotguns, and muzzleloaders) in the Armory during the fall semester; all students utilizing the Armory must abide by the policies and procedures of the Armory. Anyone that brings a firearm on campus and/or violates the Armory policy will be violation of New York State Law, and the New York State Police will be contacted.
As stated in Subsection 3 of the Paul Smith’s College Community Guide:
Firearms, ammunition, bows, and arrows are permitted to be stored with Campus Safety during hunting season/fall semester.
Storage of said firearms is a privilege and can be revoked at any time, without warning. Students taking advantage of this privilege must abide by the policy set forth by Paul Smith’s College and Campus Safety at all times. It is the student’s responsibility to read, understand, and follow this policy.
ARMORY PRIVILEGES AND/OR ACCESS MAY BE DENIED AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF THE COLLEGE.
ARMORY PRIVILEGES WILL BE REVOKED FOR ANY VIOLATION OF COLLEGE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.
