Student Health Service’s Physicians can prescribe medications for students. Health Services can also help process prescriptions given to students by their hometown practitioners.
Prescriptions sent to Post Office Pharmacy in Saranac Lake are billed through insurance by the pharmacy, and the co-pays are placed on the student’s account as an “infirmary charge.” Students must have updated proof of insurance, including copies of separate prescription cards and flexible spending cards if applicable.
Prescription refills and renewals are also available. Students should request refills by calling Post Office Pharmacy at 518-891-2233 or refilling online. Please make sure to schedule a renewal visit in Health Services at least 3-5 days before your medication supply runs out.
As an added convenience, prescription medication’s filled at Post Office Pharmacy can be delivered to Student Health Services during the week. Student’s can then stop into the Health Services office and pick them up.
Stop in before you are out of refills to learn more about the prescription courier service, and what days it is running this semester.
If a Student is prescribed a controlled substance, chooses another local pharmacy, or their insurance is not taken at Post Office Pharmacy then we cannot provide them with these services. They are responsible for picking up their prescription, and paying a possible co-pay up front.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Students are responsible for keeping controlled medications in a secure place. They are also responsible for picking up there medications from Health Services in a timely manner. If a Student chooses they do not want a prescription anymore, but it has already been brought to campus, charges will still apply.
